Nelson Mandela introduces The Elders, Johannesburg, 18 July 2007

Nelson Mandela announced the formation of The Elders on his 89th Birthday. He described the Elders as a small dedicated group of leaders who will work objectively in global interests.

Together with the declaration of human rights after the second world war and the millennium development goals, does this pose real hope that poverty, hunger, violence and injustice will cease to hinder the release of human potential in our lifetimes?
